Notes on arriving and departing

The following information will give you an overview and some general notes on arriving and departing at points along the whole stretch of the motorway. You can find detailed information on each access point along the motorway on the picture of the motorway stretch.

1. Access to the motorway is possible via each motorway entrance and exit.

2. At each entrance and exit on the picture of the motorway stretch you will find an overview of ways to arrive and depart. This can be downloaded in PDF format. The PDF data are only available in German. If you require any further help please consult our information hotline: 01805 - 45 2010 (landline 14 cents per minute. Mobile phone prices may be different).

If you wish to find individual alternatives for arriving and departing, you should use one the following transport possibilities:
- Public transport (Bus stops and stations near the motorway, with details on distances)
- Bike (Cycle parking lots, Park & Bike facilities, distances to the nearest cycle route and a link to the cycle route planner)
- Car (Nearby parking lots for cars and buses, multi-storey parking facilities including information on their capacity and prices*, as well as shuttle services)

We recommend that visitors planning to arrive by rail from a distance follow the following procedure. First consult the "picture of the motorway stretch" and select the motorway entrance you wish to use. Then choose a corresponding public transport bus stop or railway station. Insert the relevant town and station in the "Travel Information" template, along with your point of departure, and you will then be given a detailed plan to enable you to travel to the event. Before the start of the event the nearest stations to the motorway entrances in the PDF data will be linked with the VRR (local transport authority) digital travel information. The PDF data are only available in German. If you require any further help please consult our information hotline: 01805 - 45 2010 (landline 14 cents per minute. Mobile phone prices may be different)

3. You can visit the so-called "table side of the motorway" in the direction from Dortmund to Duisburg on foot. This is where visitors will be presenting their programme of activities at the 20.000 tables. If you are the holder of a ticket for a table you can get your bearings from the data given on your ticket. Here you will find details on the motorway entrance or exit, and the number of the block containing your table. Signs at the entrance to the motorway and along the route itself will tell you the exact location of your table (distance in kilometres and table number). When planning your journey please note that you should take account of the distance by foot to your table.

4. Visitors who wish to explore the table side of the motorway on foot are recommended to use public transport. You can find an overview of all the (public transport) stops near each entrance and exit, beneath the stopping point symbol on the "picture of the motorway stretch".

5. The side of the motorway leading from Duisburg to Dortmund is the so-called "mobility side". This can be used by visitors on bikes, in-line skaters and anyone using other means of wheeled transport providing it has no motor. Cyclists, please note: plan in advance the section of the motorway you intend to use, and get information on ways to arrive and depart at the respective start and end of your route. The best way to do this is to use the cycle route planner.

6. Because of the huge number of expected visitors it will not be possible to take your bikes on buses and trains on the day of the event. For this reason we would urgently request all cyclists living near the motorway stretch to plan their journey exclusively by bike. To help you do this, please use the cycle route planner.
Visitors who want to travel along the motorway by bike and are coming from some distance away, have the opportunity to use the specially signed "Park & Bike" areas. Visitors who wish to explore the motorway on their own bike and who are travelling from afar are recommended to avoid travelling by rail, and therefore transport their bikes by car and use the specially signed "Park & Bike" areas instead.

7. Information for people with handicaps
The AWO and the Lions Club will have tables at the entrances to the motorway at Dortmund Kley, Bochum Hamme, Duisburg Häfen and Essen Frohnhausen. Their members are prepared at any time to help people with handicaps in order to enable them to access the motorway stretch as easily as possible. All the members of AWO and the Lions Club have been specially trained and are therefore able to give targeted help.
In addition, tables near the motorway entrances will offer people with handicaps the chance to take a break and exchange information.
