Motorway diversions

"Still-Life A40" is a massive project. One million visitors are expected to take part in the celebrations of popular culture along a 60 km stretch of the motorway on the 18th of July. The A40/B1 motorway will therefore be closed from 17 July 2010 at 10 pm until 19 July 2010 at 5 am between Duisburg-Rheinhausen and Dortmund Märkische Straße.

Local drivers are recommended to stay clear of the event area. For drivers coming from afar diversion signs will be erected at motorway intersections on the 5th of July to inform them of the best possible diversion routes. From the 15th of July onwards recommended diversion routes will be also show on the computerised signs.

The network of surrounding motorways (A42, A2, A44, A45) will offer sufficient opportunities to take up the diverted traffic. Nonetheless, you should reckon with more crowded traffic along these roads.

According to Ulrich Malburg from the Ministry of Construction and Traffic at the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia: "The Still-Life A40 event has been consciously planned to take place on the first holiday weekend in North Rhine Westphalia. The A40 / B1 is not one of the major travel routes for holiday traffic. For this reason long-distance traffic will not be particularly affected. There will be signposted diversions, in particular along the parallel A2 and A42 motorways".
