"Still-Life A40" is a massive project. One million visitors are expected to take part in the celebration of popular culture along a 60 km stretch of the motorway on the 18th of July. The question is how to get to the motorway on foot or by bike. The following information will give you an overview of the most important facts about arriving and departing at points along the whole stretch of the motorway. You can download a PDF data about how to get to individual exits and entrances from the picture of the motorway stretch*.
The picture of the motorway stretch will give you an overview of the entrances and exits to the event. The best way to find out about the different ways of arriving and departing is to first decide on the particular town and the particular stretch of the motorway you wish to visit. Then choose the means of transport you plan to use to get there.
Access to the motorway can be made via the corresponding entrances and exits. The "table" side of the motorway - in the direction from Dortmund to Duisburg - is open to pedestrians. The other side of the motorway in the direction from Duisburg to Dortmund is for the use of cyclists and in-line skaters.
Visitors who wish to explore the "table" side of the motorway on foot are recommended to arrive by public transport. Because of the huge number of expected visitors it will not be possible to bring along your bikes on buses and trains on the day of the event. For this reason we would urgently request all cyclists living near the motorway stretch to plan their journey exclusively by bike. To help you do this, please use the cycle route planner.
Visitors who want to travel along the motorway by bike and are coming from some distance away, should bring their bikes by car and use the specially signed "Park & Bike" areas.

Information for people with handicaps
AWO and the Lions Club will have tables at the entrances to the motorway at Dortmund Kley, Bochum Hamme, Duisburg Häfen and Essen Frohnhausen. Their members will be prepared at any time to give help to people with handicaps in order to enable them to access the motorway stretch as easily as possible. All the members of AWO and the Lions have been specially trained and are therefore able to give targeted help.
In addition, tables near the motorway entrances will offer people with handicaps the chance to take a break and exchange information.
Travelling from afar
General information for visitors from abroad can be found here. Visitors coming from afar should first decide on their preferred entrance to the motorway by consulting the picture of the motorway stretch, and then select a public transport railway station. You should then insert the name of the town and the station in the "Travel information" template on the homepage of German Rail: www.bahn.de. Once you have entered this along with your point of departure you will receive a detailed plan to help you arrive and depart. Before the start of the event the nearest stations to the motorway entrances given in the PDF data, will be linked with the VRR (local transport authority) digital travel information.
You can also register to receive the Still-Life Newsletter. The newsletter will inform you about any possible changes with respect to arriving and departing.
We reserve the right to make changes without notice.
